Kudos to Dr. Lisa Hark, the host of TLC's new television show Honey, We're Killing the Kids. Dr. Hark is promoting healthier lifestyles in an attempt to help children avoid developing obesity, chronic disease, and premature aging.
She uses gimmicks such as computer-enhanced aging images to show the parents what their children will look like as 40-year-olds if they continue with their current food and lifestyle choices. She shows additional images of the new, improved child after he or she has changed to a healthier lifestyle. Although this is a bit of an exaggeration, Dr. Hark effectively makes the point that our choices today reflect our future tomorrow.
In general, I applaud her efforts at promoting healthy eating and lifestyles within the family. Additionally, her work is based on researched principles which is evident in her recommendations. Okay, I wouldn't ask children to eat tofu on their first dinner makeover!
